General Information

Strafford County DOC frequently has openings come available. We are not accepting applications now but will announce on our home page when we will be accepting them again in the future. Turnover rate has decreased lately, but positions still become open during the year. Applicants will be contacted for processing. See below for details and application.

Please note a new correctional facility opened up in 2004 and Features:

  • State of the art information technology systems.
  • State of the art inmate management philosophy of direct supervisors
  • Maximum, medium, and minimum security housing
  • Complete kitchen facility.
  • Complete medical services, including X-ray and infirmary.
  • Separate areas for residential drug & alchol therapeutic communities.
  • Video arraignment room.
  • Under glass visiting (7 days a week)

The correctional officer is responsible for the direct supervision of all inmates incarcerated at the facility.

REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent communication and human relation skills, good health and the desire for a challenging career.

» Physical Fitness Requirements
At least four (4) of these tests must be passed.

Women are very successful in this profession and are encouraged to apply! Currently females comprise 44% of our line supervisors, and we would like to increase our female officer staff to 50%. We have a Special Reaction Team that trains every month, career ladder positions that pay an extra dollar per hour, county educational incentive reimbursement, on site parking, free meals and uniforms provided. We get a day off with pay for not calling in sick for a year and three days off with pay for passing all seven physical fitness requirements.

Persons with no experience frequently work out to being great trainees and officers because as they learn, they have no preconceived idea about how to do the job. Probationary period is 6 months.
