Opening ceremonies were held on July 16th, 2004 for our new jail:
- The new jail is 89,000 square feet.
- 500 fire/safety alarms with sprinkler system, 250 electronic doors, 45
cameras, 205 parking spaces, 2 intercom systems, emergency duress system,
touch screen security system, magnetic card access system, climate control, 24
non-contact visiting booths with 7 days a week visiting, 2 negative pressure
cells, 2 loading docks, kitchen, 4 inmate recreation areas, library, computer
training room with 9 workstations, infrastructure for 144 more beds, county
fitness center for staff, vehicle sally port and staff support area.
- All residential cells have windows and call buttons with skylights in all
adjoining dayrooms.
- Inmate management philosophy is "direct supervision" which entails privileges
being dependant on behavior.
- 334 beds are being built now, final total will be 392 in 6 months.
- 6 additional employees hired to run new jail: 4 officers and two cooks.
- Correctional consultant is Liebert & Associates, Boulder, Co.
- Architect is Rosser International, Inc., Atlanta, Georgia.
- General Contractor is H.E. Sargent, Stillwater, Maine.
- Project broke ground on June 11, 2002, construction started July 15, 2002.
- Transition team consisting of 4 employees started September 9, 2002.
- Precast cells were made in Milford, NH by Rotondo Weirich Enterprises, Inc.,
Lederach. Pa. -- first cell in place on March 19, 2003, last one: March 28, 2003.
- ADA compliant.
