Gunlocks designed to promote child safety through safe storage of firearms are being made available free to Strafford County residents through the Strafford County Sheriff’s Office and Project Childsafe.

Sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the locks will be available at the Strafford County Sheriff’s Office, 270 County Farm Road in Dover, NH, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; at the Security Desk at the public entrance to the Strafford County Superior Court House, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, or from any Strafford County Deputy Sheriff.

Project Childsafe is an expansion of the Project Homesafe Program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The firearms safety education program is supported by the U. S. Department of Justice and its component of Project Safe Neighborhoods.

The NSSF is a trade association for the firearms and recreational shooting industry which partners with governors, U. S. Attorney’s state attorneys and local law enforcement agencies in promoting firearms safety education.

Strafford County Sheriff Wayne M. Estes was quoted in saying that his office was supportive of the efforts being made collectively by all agencies involved in this very worthwhile effort to promote gun safety through out the county. He expressed his opinion that the effects of the program would foster fewer firearms accidents, especially those involving children.
