In 1971, Dispatch was located in the old Courthouse on Second Street in Dover, NH. There was a radio on the secretary’s desk but no central dispatch system. Calls were received in various locations, including Police Chiefs homes.

In 1974, the current "Dispatch Center" was formed and housed in the Strafford County Courthouse on County Farm Road in Dover, NH. Calls began to be received and dispatched from a central location 24 hours per day.

Current:

The "Dispatch Center" dispatches for 15 agencies in 9 towns, including 9 Police Departments, 2 Fire Departments, 3 ambulance crews and the Sheriff's Office in addition to 2 dedicated 911 lines for Strafford County maintaining coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Also, Strafford County provides secondary 911-dispatch backup for the cities of Dover, Rochester and Somersworth.

The "Dispatch Center" is also a central coordination point to State and local agencies during major emergency situations. The personnel are qualified, well trained and experienced in the handling of all types of calls, from life-threatening emergencies to requests for information in a prompt and courteous manner.
